“These aren’t images you will easily forget” Germany’s opposition leader Friedrich Merz visited war-torn Irpin

Friedrich Merz, leader of Germany’s Christian Democrats, visited Ukraine on May 3, 2022. During his trip, he toured the bombed-out town of Irpin. “These aren’t images you forget in a hurry. It’s not enough to see it on television: you have to see it in person to understand the extent of the tragedy,” he said. Merz also added he would report his findings from the trip back to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Friedrich Merz met with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and said the battle against Russian invaders was a fight on behalf of freedom everywhere. Also, during his trip to Ukraine’s capital Friedrich Merz met with Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko, his brother Volodymyr, and Ukrainian MPs.
