This winter will be life-threatening for millions of people in Ukraine
The World Health Organization has warned that Ukraine’s health system is “facing its darkest days in the war so far.” WHO Regional Director for Europe, Dr. Hans Henri P. Kluge, said that this winter would be life-threatening for millions of people in Ukraine.
“The devastating energy crisis, the deepening mental health emergency, constraints on humanitarian access, and the risk of viral infections will make this winter a formidable test for the Ukrainian health system and the Ukrainian people, but also for the world and its commitment to support Ukraine,” Dr. Kluge said.
WHO has so far verified 703 attacks on the health system of Ukraine since the Russian war began nine months ago. This is a breach of international humanitarian law and the rules of war, the WHO Regional Director for Europe stressed.
