This year spring sowing will take place on at least 70% of agricultural land — Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine

“According to the pessimistic forecast, it is possible to sow 70% [of agricultural land in Ukraine this year]. If the territories of Chernihiv and Sumy regions, which have huge agricultural areas, can be demined in the coming weeks, the sown area may increase to 80%,” said Taras Vysotsky, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

According to him, the crops from 30-40% out of 70% of the sown land will be used for Ukraine’s consumption, and the rest will be exported.

As of April 7, 2022, the sowing campaign has started in 23 regions of Ukraine. Though in some regions, spring field works are conducted under the shelling. For example, in Zaporizhzhia region, only 30 km from the line of battle, farmers go to the fields in military ammunition and only after the fields have been demined there.
