“Those who believe that reconciliation is possible without the withdrawal of Russian troops have learned nothing from history”

President of Slovakia Zuzana Čaputová is on an official visit to Ukraine. On May 31, 2022, she met with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and visited the war-torn towns of Borodianka and Irpin near Kyiv.
“You are our eyes in Europe — you see what happened here,” President Čaputová quoted a representative of the bombed Irpin, who thanked her for visiting the town, on Facebook.
She also addressed Ukrainian MPs in the parliament — Verkhovna Rada. Čaputová is only the second head of state to speak in the Ukrainian parliament since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022.
She supported Ukraine’s accession to the European Union as soon as possible and assured MPs that Slovakia would take care of Ukrainian women and children forced to leave their country. The Slovak president also promised Ukraine Slovak howitzers ‘Zuzana.’
“By your struggle, you are defending us, and we thank you for that, your war is just and defensive. In this war the whole democratic world is on your side,” Zuzana Čaputová said. The President of Slovakia also commented on calls for Ukraine to cede its territory.
“Those who today call for an end to military aid to Ukraine, call for your capitulation, those who believe that reconciliation is possible even without the withdrawal of Russian troops have learned nothing from history — 1938, 1968, or 2014. And for those who are calling for the preservation of Vladimir Putin’s face today, I recommend reading a biographical book about him called ‘The Man Without a Face,'” she added.
