U.S. to send 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine
U.S. President Joe Biden announced that the United States would provide 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. The M1 Abrams is the U.S. military’s main tank system and “the most capable tank in the world,” Biden said.
“We remain united and determined as ever in our conviction and our cause. These tanks are further evidence of our enduring, unflagging commitment to Ukraine and our confidence in the skill of the Ukrainian forces,” the U.S. president added.
President Biden stressed that delivering tanks is not an offensive threat to Russia. “There is no offensive threat to Russia. If Russian troops return to Russia … where they belong, this war would be over today,” he said.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Biden for the “powerful decision to provide Abrams,” declaring on Twitter that “the free world is united as never before.”
