Ukraine initiated restriction of Russian gas transit through Nord Stream 1 to preserve Ukrainian gas transport infrastructure

Ukraine is actively negotiating with its European and US partners on limiting Russian gas supplies to Europe via Nord Stream 1.

“We welcome the sanctions against Nord Stream 2 and propose to limit Nord Stream 1, because there are currently free capacities in Poland and Ukraine to provide additional transit through our gas pipeline,” Director General of Gas Transmission System Operation of Ukraine LLC (GTSOU) Serhiy Makogon said.

The preservation of the transit of Russian gas through the Ukrainian GTS during the war is extremely important since it ensures the preservation of Ukraine’s gas transport infrastructure from destruction by Russian aggressors.
