Ukraine offered its gas storage facilities to create a strategic gas reserve for European countries
Ukraine welcomes the decision of European states to create a platform for joint gas purchases and is ready to provide its underground storage facilities to create a strategic gas reserve for European countries, said German Halushchenko, Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
Ukraine’s natural gas storage facilities are the world’s third-biggest by capacity – behind only the United States and Russia – can store over 30 bcm. Not only is it the largest storage system in Europe, just by itself Ukraine accounts for more than a fifth of Europe’s total capacity.
“Joint purchase of gas and its storage in Ukrainian gas storage facilities will allow us to get rid of the dictates of a terrorist state and ensure reliable energy supplies for the entire European continent,” the Minister of Energy said.
