Ukraine reduced steel production by 46% in January-April 2022 because of the war

Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in January-April 2022 reduced steel production by 46% compared to the same period last year — to 3.858 million tonnes, according to the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals. In April 2022, only one steel plant produced steel.
Before the Russian war, Ukraine was the world’s 13th largest steel producer. It produced 21.4 million mt of crude steel in 2021. About 80% of its steel output was exported.
Ukraine used to send steel to the Middle East, Turkey, the EU, Africa, and the Americas.
