Ukrainian Center for Civil Liberties is among Nobel Peace Prize winners

The Nobel Peace Prize has been given to one individual and two organizations, and Ukrainian Center for Civil Liberties is among them.
According to the official statement, the Peace Prize laureates represent civil society in their home countries. “They have for many years promoted the right to criticize power and protect the fundamental rights of citizens. They have made an outstanding effort to document war crimes, human rights abuses, and the abuse of power. Together they demonstrate the significance of civil society for peace and democracy,” said the statement.
It is the first Nobel prize for Ukraine.
Besides Ukrainian Center for Civil Liberties, this year’s Peace Prize is awarded to human rights advocate Ales Bialiatski from Belarus and the Russian human rights organization Memorial.
