Ukrainian children present European Commission President with traditional embroidered towel

Ukrainian children from Kalush Lyceum No. 10 in the Ivano-Frankivsk region presented European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen with a traditional Ukrainian embroidered towel — rushnyk. In Ukraine, it has been usually used for decorative or ceremonial purposes and meant protection. Together with a rushnyk, children sent moving letters and drawings.
“Your kindness and creativity have truly brightened my day. I want you to know that we, in the European Union, are thinking of you every day. Your bravery during these dark times is admirable, and you are an inspiration to us all,” Ursula von der Leyen wrote in her Instagram post.
