Ukrainian Parliament recognized Chechen Republic of Ichkeria occupied by Russia

On October 18, 2022, the Ukrainian Parliament — Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine — recognized the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria as temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation and condemned the genocide of the Chechen people.

The relevant resolution was supported by 287 members of the Ukrainian Parliament.

Ichkeria proclaimed independence after the collapse of the USSR. Russia unleashed two wars against the Chechen State: the first failed to break the state, though the second resulted in Russia’s occupation of territory. During Russia’s aggression, its armed forces committed numerous international crimes in the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.
