Ukrainian Railways resumed 40% of pre-war cargo traffic

In May 2022, Ukrainian Railways has already transported 300-310 thousand tons of cargo per day, which is about 40% of the pre-war volume, said company chairman Oleksandr Kamyshin.

Before the war, Ukrainian Railways handled an average of 700 thousand tons of cargo per day. In the first days of the war, this amount dropped to 150 thousand tons. Already in March it was possible to load 250 thousand tons daily, in April — 295 thousand tons, and from the beginning of May – 300-310 thousand tons.

The greatest growth — by 86% — is recorded in grain transportation. In addition, the amount of transportation of construction materials has doubled.

“Ukrainian Railways is ready to redirect traffic from the ports of southern Ukraine to the western border crossings with the EU. Unfortunately, neighboring countries have not been ready for such volumes, but work is continuing, and volumes will increase,” Kamyshin said.
