UN to allocate $4 million for demining in Mykolaiv region
During the meeting, the UN representative announced the international organization’s intention to allocate about $4 million for purchasing mechanized demining equipment and training demining operators. In the future, demining equipment will be used to clear the areas of the Mykolaiv region contaminated with unexploded ordnance, Ukraine’s Ministry of Reintegration reported.
Today, this region is one of the most explosive-contaminated among the recently de-occupied territories of Ukraine. Experts estimate that the total area in the region contaminated with mines and unexploded ammunition is almost 2,614 square kilometers.
To implement the project, the UNDP Mine Action Team plans a working visit to the Mykolaiv region soon.
