Under constant shelling Kharkiv City Perinatal Center doctors continue to deliver babies and perform complex medical surgeries

“If I ever start writing, today’s chapter will be entitled ‘Children of War: how to do an exchange blood transfusion twice per night during Russian air strikes’”, the head of Khrakiv Perinatal Center Iryna Kondratova texted on the 15th day of the war.

Under constant shelling in the city of Kharkiv, the medical staff of the hospital continues to deliver babies, teach premature babies to breathe, do surgeries, experiment with nutrition and do everything necessary for Ukrainian mothers and babies. Most of the doctors walk by foot a few kilometers every day to reach the hospital and work their shifts. After the war broke out, many doctors who had been on vacation in other cities returned back to Kharkiv to do their duty.

Kharkiv Perinatal Center is the top medical institution in Kharkiv region to provide obstetric, gynecological and neonatological care, including premature births and miscarriages, as well as for providing medical care to premature infants with extremely low body weight.
