UNESCO launched a project to protect Ukraine’s heritage during the war

UNESCO and the Danish organization Blue Shield Danmark have launched the Backup Ukraine project to preserve Ukrainian cultural sites during the war.

The initiative created archives with digital 3D copies of important historical buildings. To create a digital model of the monument, the Polycam application – LiDAR & 3D Scanner is needed, it is available for iOS. Digital replicas can be shared with the world, and potentially aid in reconstruction. Anyone can join the project.

Ukraine has seven World Heritage Sites, designated by UNESCO for holding cultural importance, but Backup Ukraine’s aims go far beyond those.
