US, UK and France dismiss Russia’s “dirty bomb” claim against Ukraine
The United States, United Kingdom and France have rejected Russian claims that Ukraine is preparing to use a “dirty bomb” on its own territory, characterizing the claims as Moscow’s attempt to create a pretext for escalation, according to a joint statement.
“Our countries made clear that we all reject Russia’s transparently false allegations that Ukraine is preparing to use a dirty bomb on its own territory. The world would see through any attempt to use this allegation as a pretext for escalation. We further reject any pretext for escalation by Russia,” the statement said.
Earlier, the Russian Defense Minister made the “dirty bomb” remarks in a flurry of phone calls with Western counterparts. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has condemned unsubstantiated claims and accused Russia of being “the source of everything dirty that can be imagined in this war.”
