USA to allocate $89 mln to Ukraine for demining territories

The United States will provide $89 million worth of assistance to Ukraine for removing land mines put in place by Russian forces.

The money will fund equipment and training of 100 demining teams, informed U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink on Twitter.

“Landmines, unexploded ordnance, and other hazards block farmland, delay reconstruction, keep people from returning, and kill and maim innocent Ukrainians. That’s why we’re providing $89 million to enable Ukraine to deploy approximately 100 demining teams to make Ukraine safer,” the U.S. Ambassador wrote.

Previously, Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, a spokesman for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, stated Ukraine might need 10 years to demine its entire territory. According to him, about 300,000 square kilometers are contaminated with explosives in Ukraine.
