USAID in partnership with Ukrainian startup Animal ID Ukraine helped a cat from Bucha find his family

“Max is a Maine Coon from Bucha. He was taken from his home by Russian soldiers and left in Belarus after Ukraine’s victory in the Battle of Kyiv. Thanks to some kind people in Belarus who found him and used his QR tag to find his owners, Max has been reunited with his family.

USAID is proud to have helped make this possible through our partnership with the Ukrainian startup Animal ID. Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Animal ID distributed thousands of QR tags for pets. That means if someone finds a lost pet, they can scan the QR code to see the owner’s contact details. The owner can also see the location where the QR code was scanned.

We’re glad to know that Max and other pets are safe and sound through this activity!” USAID Ukraine wrote on Facebook.
