World’s first UNESCO music department opened in Kyiv

The world’s first UNESCO music department, “Music, education, science — for the sake of peace,” was opened on Mar. 9, 2023, at the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music, as Ukrinform reports.
“It will popularize Ukrainian culture in Europe and the world and present our country and our music academy and its achievements. Our advantage is that music, as a symbol of the unity of nations, states and continents, can reach all hearts. Today, we are forming the department as a structural division, and we will continue to implement our educational and state projects,”
Vice-President for Academic Work of the National Academy of Music, Viktor Bondarchuk, stated. International representatives also attended the opening. Among them is UNESCO Liaison Officer to Ukraine, Chiara Dezzi Bardeschi. She noted that war deeply affects people’s lives, and this event speaks of the nation’s resistance and the power of music that can bring people closer and inspire recovery.
